What Phoenix asks of a DXF
- The DXF Translator is an optional, password-enabled feature, switched on in Special Setups. It turns the DXF into an EIA part program.
- On the cut layer: only lines, arcs, circles and text commands. Dimensions and notes belong on other layers.
- Polylines and ellipses are not supported: they must be exploded into lines and arcs first.
- Text on the cut layer is read as commands — “1” marks the first pierce, then a numbered order, “+” and “−” set a circle's direction.
- Where two arcs meet, their end angles must not fall in the same quadrant.
- On a raw DXF the operator chooses the lead type, lead length or radius, angle, auto-position and overburn.
EDGE Connect, Hypertherm's newer CNC, lists DXF and DWG among the files it imports directly.
How Zorocut's export lines up
| Phoenix rule | Zorocut's DXF |
|---|---|
| Lines, arcs, circles only on the cut layer | Yes: LINE, ARC and CIRCLE are the only entities it writes |
| No polylines or ellipses | Yes: none written; splines and ellipses in the customer's file are converted on import |
| Text on the cut layer = commands | Part names go on ZC_LABEL only, never on ZC_CUT; switch labels off to be sure |
| Two arcs at a joint: end angles in different quadrants | Not handled: Zorocut does not split arcs at quadrant boundaries |
| Leads added by the translator | Yes: Zorocut writes no leads |
Settings in Zorocut
- Machine tab: kind Plasma, Controller Other.
- Export profile DXF R2000; switch Part labels off, so no text reaches the translator at all.
- Keep the sheet outline off too, or make sure ZC_SHEET is not the layer the translator cuts.

The manual we read is for Phoenix 8.0, in a third-party copy; EDGE Connect runs a newer Phoenix whose DXF rules may differ, and neither page states the DXF versions or units accepted. The arc-quadrant rule is the one place where a Zorocut file could break on paper. Until a shop runs one, treat this as a lead to test, not a promise.
Veelgestelde vragen
Does Zorocut write Phoenix part programs?
No. It writes DXF; the Phoenix DXF Translator turns it into an EIA program and adds the leads.
Why does Zorocut not split arcs for Phoenix?
Because no Phoenix import has been tested yet, we have not built an option for a rule we cannot check. If you run Phoenix, tell us what your translator does with a Zorocut file.
Is Zorocut affiliated with Hypertherm?
No. Phoenix, EDGE Connect and ProNest are Hypertherm products; the names are used here only to describe compatibility.
